Robinson Hall Replacement

Week of December 16:

  • Offsite work is progressing on coordination and inspections of prefabricated electrical rooms that are being fabricated offsite in a warehouse facility in southern Virginia. Additional rooms delivered to site this week for installation.
  • Installation of site utilities, including storm sewer and telecom duct bank. In addition, below-grade waterproofing will be completed over the next two weeks.
  • Prep for concrete slab on deck pour, Floor 6, north section.
  • Continue installation of spray-on fireproofing.
  • Continue installation of overhead mechanical/plumbing on Floors 1, 2 and 3.
  • Continue installation of hollow metal steel framing on Floors 3 and 4.
  • Continue installation of exterior metal stud framing for building envelop.
  • Continue installation of materials on building mock-up.

Week of December 23:

  • Continue installation of material hoist.
  • Continue installation of spray-on fireproofing.
  • Continue installation of overhead mechanical/plumbing on Floors 1, 2 and 3.
  • Continue installation of hollow metal steel framing on Floors 3 and 4.
  • Continue installation of exterior metal stud framing for building envelop and begin installation of exterior sheathing.
  • Complete installation of materials on building mock-up and begin relocation of fence panels to expose the mock-up panels to northeast corner of site. 

Utility Infrastructure Project

Week of December 16:

  • Continue installation of underground electrical and telecom for future Wilkins Plaza event power, light poles, and Wi-Fi.
  • Continue work on new concrete site walls in Phase 3 area (Wilkins Plaza, east extension). 
  • Continue earthwork and grading to prep for framing and installation of new concrete sub slab/paver base in Phase 3 areas.
  • Pipe delivery continues for Phase 4 areas (Southside east to Central Heating and Cooling Plant).
  • Continue trenching, pipe installation, and backfill in Phase 4 areas; increased activity for the next several weeks in the area directly east of Southside as work continues on installation of a new underground chilled water pipe manifold. Testing and inspection of newly installed manifold.
  • Rivanna River Lane remains open to one-way traffic, though intermittent closures may be required to complete testing and site restoration over next several weeks until phase of work is fully complete. 
  • Continue site restoration and concrete walk repairs in the area of Rivanna River Lane and Patriot Circle.

Week of December 23:

  • Continue installation of underground electrical and telecom for future Wilkins Plaza event power, light poles, and Wi-Fi.
  • Continue work on new concrete site walls in Phase 3 area (Wilkins Plaza, east extension).
  • Continue earthwork and grading to prep for framing and installation of new concrete sub slab/paver base in Phase 3 areas.
  • Continue trenching, pipe installation, and backfill in Phase 4 areas (Southside east to Central Heating and Cooling Plant); increased activity for the next several weeks in the area directly east of Southside. 
  • Clean out trenching and tie in at south loop chilled water takeoff point. Insulate chilled water caps and flow fill existing chilled water pipes to be abandoned in place.
  • Remove existing chilled water piping at plant, install new chilled water piping, and tie into existing plant chilled water risers.
  • Rivanna River Lane closes to traffic during winter break to help facilitate construction activities. The road will be restored to one-way traffic by the start of spring 2020 semester. 
  • Continue site restoration and concrete walk repairs in the area of Rivanna River Lane and Patriot Circle.
  • Begin installation of fencing, erosion, and sediment control measures in Phase 5 areas (East Plaza between the Johnson Center and David King Hall, and down to Enterprise Hall).
