Core Campus Project: Two-Week Planner, September 9–20

A reminder that areas of the Core Campus Project within the fencing are active work areas. For your safety, please stay outside the fenced areas.

Robinson Hall Replacement

Week of September 9:

  • Complete backfill of foundation walls around south and southwest side of the new building.
  • Continue steel erection moving south and then up to floor five and repeat starting at north end of building and moving south for six floors.
  • Offsite work is progressing on coordination and inspections of pre-fabricated electrical rooms that are being fabricated offsite in a warehouse facility in southern Virginia.   
  • Continue installation of elevated underfloor mechanical and electrical and telecom utilities.

Week of September 16:

  • Continue steel erection moving south and then up to floor five and repeat starting at north end of building and moving south for six floors.

Utility Infrastructure Project

Week of September 9:

  • Continue hardscape and landscape punch list in Phase 1 (Aquia Creek Lane, Johnson Center South Plaza, EagleBank Arena) and 2 (West Building, Music/Theater) areas.
  • Continue work to improve high-temperature hot water tunnel in Phase 3 areas (Wilkins Plaza extension from clock to Southside Plaza). This work includes a high-temperature hot water shutdown that will start sometime this week and be completed before start of heating season in early November.
  • Continue to excavate for new underground electrical and telecom for future Wilkins Plaza event power, light poles and Wi-Fi.
  • Pipe delivery continues for Phase 4 (Southside east to Central Heating and Cooling Plant), 5 (between Johnson Center and Exploratory and David King Halls) and 6 (Commons housing) areas.
  • Continue trenching and pipe installation in Phase 4 areas.
  • Closure of Rivanna River Road as pipe is delivered and installed in phase 4 areas. This closure will continue through mid-October.
  • Finalize test pitting to determine location of underground utilities in Phase 5 areas.
  • Final week for mockup of Enslaved People of George Mason Memorial installed on Wilkins Plaza to help determine final installation details.

Week of September 16:
