Core Campus Project: Two-Week Planner, August 26 to September 6

Robinson Hall Replacement

Week of August 26:

  • Continue backfill of foundation walls around east and south sides of the new building.
  • Procurement of materials for full scale building envelop mock up.
  • Continue steel erection moving south and then up to floor two and repeat starting at north end of building and moving south for six floors.
  • Offsite work is progressing on coordination and inspections of pre-fabricated electrical rooms that are being fabricated offsite in a warehouse facility in southern Virginia.   
  • Continue installation of elevated underfloor mechanical and electrical and telecom utilities.
  • Beam signing event to take place between the new building site and Fenwick Library on August 27, 28, 29.
  • Foundation pad to be poured for exterior wall mock up.

Week of September 2:

Utility Infrastructure Project:

Week of August 26:

  • Finalize site restoration in Phase 1A (Aquia Creek Lane), 1B (Johnson Center South Plaza), and 2B (West Building) areas.
  • Continue hardscape and landscape punch list in Phase 1 (Aquia Creek Lane, Johnson Center South Plaza, EagleBank Arena) and 2 (Music/Theater, West Building) areas.
  • Continue work to improve high-temperature hot water tunnel in Phase 3 areas (Wilkins Plaza extension - from clock to Southside Plaza).
  • Continue to excavate for new underground electrical and telecom for future Wilkins Plaza event power, light poles and Wi-Fi.
  • Pour concrete for mockup of new stone wall and seats to be located along new Wilkins Plaza extension.
  • Pipe delivery continues for Phase 4 (Central Heating and Cooling Plant to Southside), 5 (Planetary and Exploratory extension) and 6 (Commons housing) areas.
  • Continue trenching and begin pipe installation in Phase 4 areas.
  • Intermittent closures of Rivanna River Road as pipe is delivered and installed in Phase 4 areas.
  • Continue test pitting to determine location of underground utilities in Phase 5 areas, which are between Johnson Center and Exploratory and David King Hall.
  • Mockup of Enslaved People of George Mason Memorial installed on Wilkins Plaza to help determine final installation details.

Week of September 2:
